The Heart of Shahrazad

We invite you to Amiche's World Premiere of The Heart of Shahrazad. Experience the journey of healing as told through the eyes of Shahrazad, a young woman living in the midst of a violent world. Inspired by the stories found in The Arabian Nights watch as Shahrazad's journey unfolds, as portrayed by actress Sarah Carleton, with music performed by harpist Marissa Knaub and soprano Lara Lynn Cottrill. Through the unique blend of these three artists, including original music composed by Eliane Aberdam and script by Sarah Carleton, explore a story that delves into the past to find wisdom for our modern times.

Come at 5:30PM before the performance for a workshop on collage making (and thoughts on art and therapy) with one of our Thursday evening panel members, Joanne Martin, LCSW from the Lazarus Center. Tickets for the collage workshop can be bought along with performance tickets.  There is a discounted ticket for those who are purchasing both a performance ticket and collage ticket.   

Following the performance there will be a light performance.

Following this performance there will be a panel discussion, made up of community members, who will share how their work, in a variety of ways, impacts communities and how we address issues of violence towards women.

In celebration of women composers and their work,  Lara Lynn Cottrill and Marissa Knaub will share some selections from our new work along with several other pieces by women composers.

Song of Songs

We will performing our adaptation of Song of Songs at Geneva College at 7:30PM in the Old Main Chapel.  The event is free to the public.  

Song of Songs is an hour-long adaptation of the poetry of Song of Songs by Sarah Carleton interspersed with musical selections chosen by Lara Lynn Cottrill. Intermixing acting and music to bring to life the beautiful poetry found in Song of Songs, this new work looks at the power and mystery of love as it unfolds in the midst of community. The piece combines the acting of Sarah Carleton and the singing of Lara Lynn Cottrill in a unique look at these beautiful old texts as they come to life in a modern setting.

Following the performance we are inviting the audience to a Wine and Artisan Bread reception at Cottrill, Arbutina immediately following the concert, sponsored by Stray Cat Studio. The reception is just a few steps through the parking lot!  

Free child care is provided for the evening.

Shakespeare's Women Premier

Come for an evening of Art and Pizza. 

Pizza: From 6:30-7:30PM you are welcome to come and enjoy homemade pizza made in the outdoor bread oven by David and Candy Carleton. 

Shakespeare's Women: At 7:45PM there will be a performance of Shakespeare's Women

If you are planning on coming to the pizza portion of the evening please RSVP with the number of people you are plan on bringing so we can plan food accordingly.  You can RSVP via our contact page.  Please wear comfortable clothing for being outdoors and shoes that you can walk up a hill in.
